Published by the Health and Social Care Information Centre, the following statistics gives us an insight into the pay conditions affecting NHS staff.

Basic Pay for all doctors of all grades in December 2016:

  • At least 10% were paid £86,000 per annum
  • At least 9% were paid £96,000 per annum
  • At least 7% were paid £91,000 per annum
  • At least 4% were paid £31,000 per annum
  • At least 3% were paid £101,000 per annum
  • At least 2% were paid £81,000 per annum
  • At least 2% were paid £46,000 per annum

“The distribution has several distinct peaks between £28,000 and £48,000 and then four distinct peaks between £86,000 and £103,000.”

 

For non-medical staff groups the picture is markedly different:

  • The largest group, almost 8%, were paid £19,000 per annum
  • Almost 7% were paid £31,000
  • Again, almost 7% were paid £25,000
  • At least 4% were paid £37,000
  • Just over 3% were paid £43,000
