Merging of Minds!

We are proud and delighted to announce the “merging of minds” here at ProMedical!

We are excited to start a new phase in our journey with the wonderful M. Suhail Mirza, who has recently been appointed as the Chair of our Board.

We enable patient care through the empowerment of ‘Flexible Workforce Solutions’ to the Public and Independent healthcare sectors. Mr Suhail Mirza brings insight and experience spanning over two decades, and the timing is perfect—

“At a time of truly profound transformation for the NHS and the wider UK healthcare system working with Suhail and our leadership team to help deliver the best patient care through the provision of the best clinical talent is a privilege”. Altin Biba, CEO & Founder.

ProMedical welcomes M. Suhail Mirza

Suhail Mirza, Chairman, & specialist advisor to the healthcare and recruitment sectors, Qualified Life Coach, Speaker, Writer, and expert in his field, has joined our team of dedicated healthcare enthusiasts at ProMedical, and we couldn’t be prouder.

Suhail Mirza’s portfolio is an impressive testament to his dedication to people and healthcare issues. Suhail is a former employment rights lawyer who went from there into recruitment— where he is now one of the most well-known and respected figures in the UK recruitment market and has worked with leading investors in acquisitions and supporting the growth of their brand and business.

In Healthcare circles, Suhail has deep insights stemming from his experience as an author of the Laing Buisson UK Healthcare Workforce Report 2021.

His passion for ‘Wellness’ is mirrored in his roles as a global speaker, commentator, and coach on inclusive inner wellness to frontline NHS staff and audiences from various sectors, from technology to finance to energy and retail.

A need for wellness initiatives and planning supported by research

A new study from, The Lancet, published on 8th October 2021, looked at the effect the pandemic had on mental health in 2020 across 204 countries. It estimates that the cases of depression rose by 53 million globally due to the pandemic (28% above pre-pandemic levels) and the cases of anxiety increased by 76 million, an increase of 26%. Indeed, if not overdue, now is the time for wellness initiatives to support employees.

In the UK, the newly created Office of Health Improvement and Disparities (OHID) launched a new “Every mind matters” campaign on 5th October to improve the nation’s mental health. This is to be achieved by directing people to free tools and tips to improve their well-being. By answering five simple questions, people can have access to a tailored “mind plan”.

While a long journey appears ahead, we have begun that journey with a programme of ground-breaking support for the wellness of clinicians, especially those working in the (ever more important) contingent workforce. This support is not before time, as the OHID also published research findings highlighting the challenge’s scale here in the UK; nearly half of adults in England (49%) stated that the pandemic harmed their mental well-being. The effect on younger adults was even more pronounced, with 57% of 18-34-year-olds saying the pandemic negatively impacted their mental well-being.

54% of employees are close to burnout! Talint International, in its 8th September 2021 article, states that “Staff wellbeing tops employee concerns” and adds that some 54% of employees are close to burnout (citing a report called The Healthier Nation Index published by Nuffield Trust). That report added that more employees demand that their employers take more responsibility for their physical and mental well-being.

Agreeably, there has been a lack of focus on the wellness of the healthcare workforce, including the flexible workforce, especially given the central importance of candidates for recruitment businesses.

In the healthcare sector, for example, there is likely to be an even greater level of competition for the loyalty of the temporary healthcare workforce given the rising demand for services and severe global clinician shortages; this was a point made stridently by Nigel Marsh, Strategic Head of nGAGE Healthcare, in his interview with Blue Saffron Ltd in early October.

It is clear to see that there is both a demand for and an ethical need for wellness in the workforce policy reform, including the temporary workforce. In simple terms, research has shown, and observation supports that research, that there is now a great urgency to support employees, permanent and temporary. To support people and their wellness through policy and planning. And it is here that Suhail brings a wealth of knowledge as an inner wellness expert.

ProMedical’s fabric is underpinned by putting people first
